Enhanced Login Security

At American Marine Bank, your online security is a top priority. As of December 18, we have upgraded your online banking experience with a new security service to further help protect you from fraud. Please see the Frequently Asked Questions below for more information.

Our new Enhanced Login Security is a free and easy way to help prevent online fraud and protect your accounts from unauthorized access. It identifies you as the true “owner” of your accounts by recognizing not only your password but your computer as well. The enrollment process is easy and will only take a minute or two.

  • As of December 18, 2006, you will be prompted to sign up at your computer.
  • Enrollment in Enhanced Login Security will be optional during your next five logins on or after December 18. After that, enrollment will become mandatory.
  • Once you have enrolled your computer, you will log in as usual.
  • If we don’t recognize your computer – for example, you are logging in from a public computer or one you haven’t used before or you are using a different browser – we will ask challenge questions as an additional line of defense to prevent unauthorized access. (You were prompted to set up your challenge questions the first time you logged in on or after September 27, 2006.)
  • If you regularly log in from more than one computer, you will be able to enroll multiple computers.

With Enhanced Login Security, you will be protected from whatever computer you are using, whether you are at home or on the go.

Please watch this space for updates and additional information. Please call us at 800.648.3194 or e-mail us with any questions.

1.
Why is Enhanced Login Security necessary?
At American Marine Bank, your online security has always been a top priority. Not only is your security important to us – it’s now required. To further protect online banking users, the FFIEC (Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council) has required that all financial institutions in the U.S. strengthen online banking account security features. American Marine Bank's new Enhanced Login Security is a free and easy way to help prevent online fraud and protect your accounts from unauthorized access.

2.
How will Enhanced Login Security work?
This superior security technology protects your accounts from unauthorized access. It identifies you as the true “owner” of your accounts by recognizing not only your password but your computer as well. When you enroll for Enhanced Login Security,  a “cookie” will downloaded to your computer. The next time you log in, the online banking system will recognize the enrolled computer, and you will log in as usual with your User ID and password. If you do not wish to enroll the computer, you will answer challenge questions in order to access your accounts.

3.
How do I sign up for Enhanced Login Security?
The enrollment process is easy and will occur in 2 phases. As of September 27, 2006, you were prompted to set up two "challenge questions." These will be used in the event you forget your password or we don’t recognize the computer you are using. Beginning December 18, 2006, you will be prompted to add extra security protection to your computer. The next time you log in, it will be business as usual. If we don’t recognize the computer – for example, you’ve logged in from a public computer or one you haven’t used before – we’ll ask the challenge questions you’ve set up as an additional line of defense to prevent unauthorized access.

4.
What are "challenge questions?"
Challenge questions are questions that only you may know the answer to. Selection of your challenge questions took place during the first phase of implementation, which began September 27, 2006. You select one question from each of two lists. Examples of challenge questions are: “What was the name of your first childhood pet?” and “In what city was your mother born?” If you are concerned that others may know these answers, select an answer that only you will know, but that you can remember. Please note that the answers are case-sensitive.

5.
What if I can’t remember the answers to my challenge questions?
You can contact us at 800.648.3194 and we will reset your challenge questions. Please note: once we reset the questions, you will be prompted to re-enroll for Enhanced Security Login by adding extra security to your online banking account.

6.
How often do I need to enroll my computer?
One-time enrollment is required for each computer you use, or you will need to answer your challenge questions if you choose not to enroll the computer. Please note that enrollment is browser-specific; if you use two different browsers on the same computer (such as Internet Explorer and Firefox), you will need to enroll each browser separately by going to User Options > Enhanced Login Security and selecting "add extra security protection to this computer." You will also need to re-enroll your computer(s) if you need to have your password or challenge questions reset. Finally, you may also need to "add extra security" again if you have deleted your cookies.

7.
Can I opt out of Enhanced Login Security?
No – extra security protection is mandatory. It is an important part of our commitment to your online security, and it is required by the FFIEC.

8.
Can I enroll another computer in Enhanced Login Security?
Yes. You will be able to add as many computers and browsers as you wish. Once you have enrolled your first computer, you will log in as usual from that computer. You will only be challenged if you are an enrolled user, but are logging in from an unenrolled computer or browser. If you want to enroll another computer, you will first log in and answer your challenge questions. Once you have logged in, go to User Options > Enhanced Login Security. Click the circle next to "add extra security protection to this computer" (it should default to this selection) and then click the Submit button.
IMPORTANT: We highly recommend that you do not enroll a public computer such as at the library or an internet café, and that you do not enroll a computer which you do not normally access, such as at a friend’s or family member’s house.

9.
When I purchase a new computer, will the new system need to be enrolled and do I need to do anything with the old computer before I give it away?
Yes. Your new computer will need to be enrolled. If you give away your old computer, you should unenroll that computer. To do so, go to User Options > Enhanced Login Security, and choose to “Remove extra security protection from this computer.”

10.
If I delete cookies on my computer, what happens?
If you delete cookies, you will be prompted to answer challenge questions at your next login, and you will need to re-enroll your computer. To do this, go to User Options > Enhanced Login Security, select "add extra security protection to this computer" and click the Submit button.

11.
Will a personal firewall affect cookie installation?
Personal firewalls should not affect installation of the browser cookie.
